Schoology Sync to PowerSchool

Category Syncing with PowerSchool

When Schoology was adopted, teachers could only sync their Schoology assignment categories to the default 4 categories in PowerSchool; HOMEWORK, QUIZ, TEST and PROJECT. In the example below, both Classwork/Bookwork and Reading Workshop (RWS) had to be mapped in schoology to HOMEWORK.

With PowerSchool 10.0 all that has changed.

IMPORTANT NOTE – All Schoology Categories must be set to sync to PowerSchool under Total Points, even if you have category weights set up.

Categories set to total points for sync

As long as you have both PowerSchool and Schoology Category Weights set the same, they will have the same expression in both gradebooks.

  • NEW CATEGORY MAPPING WITH POWERSCHOOL 10.0

With our updated version of PowerSchool, any existing Category a user has in PowerSchool will be available to map to from Schoology. Now both Classwork/Bookwork and Reading Workshop (RWS) can be mapped to their own category as long as the category exists in your PowerSchool categories.

Configuration after the Beginning of a New Course in PowerSchool If you have used PowerSchool for a few years, you will likely have several assignment categories. Every category that shows in your gradebook in the Categories window, will appear as a potential category sync in Schoology. They don’t all have to be used. If you find that you have too many categories and aren’t sure which ones are appropriate, you may want to consider the creation of new PowerSchool Categories with the year, 2017, at the beginning of the category name.
